The Physics and Astronomy Department at Mississippi State University will host a free, public telescope viewing on Saturday [Jan. 25] at the universityâs E.I. Howell Observatory.
Participants will be able to look at Jupiter, the Orion Nebula and a brand new supernova just discovered in the nearby Starburst Galaxy, M82, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Leveck Animal Research Center -- also known as South Farm.
Due to expected cold temperatures, participants should dress warmly, said Angelle Tanner, MSU assistant professor of astronomy.
To visit Howell Observatory, turn south off Blackjack Road at the Stone Boulevard intersection -- just east of MSUâs College of Veterinary Medicine. Travel on Stone Boulevard Extended for two miles, and follow the signs to the observatory site.
