STARKVILLE, Miss.--The annual Rotary Classic Rodeo, a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association event, is coming to the Mississippi Horse Park on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8.
Hosted by the Starkville Rotary Club, this is the club's largest fundraiser each year for local projects benefitting the community.
The two-day event offers something for everyone, including pony rides and a petting zoo for youngsters. Each night features two rounds of bull riding, steer wrestling, bareback riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing, saddle bronc riding and team roping. Rodeo clowns will perform throughout the event to keep audiences laughing and cowboys safe.
Friday night is Kid's Night--children 12 and under will be admitted free.
Saturday night pony rides and the petting zoo will take place 5-6:45 p.m. on the arena floor and are free with a general admission ticket.
"Come expecting the best shows since the cowboys and cowgirls who will be contending are striving to qualify to compete in Las Vegas later this year in the National Finals Rodeo," said Bricklee Miller, director of the Mississippi Horse Park. "We want people to realize this is a great family event, but these contestants are pros and very competitive. It is awesome to get this type of major event right here in Oktibbeha County."
Rotarians will be working the concession stand to raise funds for local charities. Vendors also will be on the concourse selling rodeo-related products.
Discounted advanced tickets are on sale at the Oktibbeha County Co-op, Greater Starkville Development Partnership, Starkville Daily News and Tractor Supply Company in Starkville, and Mitchell Automotive in West Point. Advanced tickets can be purchased for $12 for adults. Children 12 and under are admitted free on Friday; Saturday children's admission is $5. Adult tickets purchased either night at the Mississippi Horse Park gate will be $15.
Sponsors include C-Spire, Greater Starkville Development Partnership, Mississippi Farm Bureau, Mitchell Automotive, Oktibbeha County Co-op, Tractor Supply Company and WCBI.
"Our sponsors continue to be dedicated to supporting the annual Rotary Classic Rodeo. We truly appreciate their continued contributions that benefit our community," said Trey Breckenridge, Rotary Classic Rodeo co-chair.
