Fall semester graduates at Mississippi State will hear from U.S. Sen. Roger F. Wicker before receiving their degrees at the university's Dec. 14 graduation program.

The Mississippi Republican has represented the state in the Senate since December 2007.

More than 1,300 MSU students are candidates for degrees. Among those choosing to participate in the 10 a.m. Humphrey Coliseum commencement will be some graduates from the summer term that has no separate event.

In addition to serving as Deputy Whip of the upper house, Wicker is a member of the Armed Services, Budget, Commerce, Science and Transportation, Environment and Public Works, and Joint Economic committees.

Prior to his Senate service, the Pontotoc native and former U.S. Air Force officer was elected seven times, beginning in 1994, to represent the 1st Congressional District in the House of Representatives.

Before his service in Washington, D.C., the graduate of the University of Mississippi and its law school represented Lee and Pontotoc counties in the Mississippi Senate.
