STARKVILLE, Miss.--The Mississippi State University Philharmonia will present "Listen to the Movies" Tuesday [Nov. 19] at Starkville's First Baptist Church.
The free 7:30 p.m. concert features popular scores from film and television, including "Pride and Prejudice," "Lord of the Rings" and "Game of Thrones."
Selections by the MSU String Quartet will open the program.
Jessica Banks, Sheri Falcone and Jackie Edwards-Henry will be featured performers, while Ryan Ross will serve as narrator. All are members of the university's music department faculty: Banks is a lecturer; Falcone, an instructor; Edwards-Henry, a professor; and Ross, an assistant professor.
Several student soloists also will be featured. They include percussionist Jennifer P. Brewster of Ripley, Tenn., and violist Sarah G. Wallace of Brandon. Brewster is a senior music education major; Wallace, a junior music major.
Other students performing include violinists Leah C. Hickman of Lakeland, Tenn., Daniel Jones of Starkville and Jessa B. Quick of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc., and cellists Hamilton Lence of Tupelo and Mahogani M. Smith of Hoover, Ala.
Hickman is a freshman elementary education major; Quick, a junior psychology major; Lence, a freshman biological sciences/pre-veterinary medicine major; and Smith, a freshman special education major. Jones is a home-school student not enrolled at MSU.
