International Education Week underway

Mississippi State University will hold its International Education Week festivities this week [Nov.11-15].

The week of events will focus on providing a place to celebrate the benefits of worldwide educational exchange. The Holmes Cultural Diversity Center at MSU will celebrate by extending the opportunity to students, staff, faculty and the Starkville community to experience a variety of other countries' customs and traditions.

-- On Monday [Nov. 11], stop by the HCDC booth to show your cultural pride as you paint flags from your country of origin. This event will take place on the first floor of the Colvard Student Union. Career Services will sponsor "Getting the Gig: Interview Tips for International Students" at 5 p.m. in Montgomery Hall, Room 331. The Muslim Student Association will screen the film, "Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet" in Fowlkes Auditorium in the Colvard Student Union at 6 p.m.

-- On Tuesday [Nov. 12], join students, faculty and staff for "International Dress Day." Everyone is encouraged to dress in traditional clothing from their country of choice. Addressing this year's theme of "understanding the intersection of current global issues in our daily lives" will be Lokesh Shivakumaraiah, associate director of the International Institute at MSU. He will lead a discussion with international students on their experiences while living and studying in a different country at 4 p.m. at Starbucks in the Colvard Student Union. The Muslim Student Association will present a discussion with Hanif J. Williams at 6 p.m. in the Colvard Student Union, Room 231.

-- On Wednesday, [Nov.13], the study abroad office will host a photo contest reception at 2 p.m. in the Colvard Student Union.

-- On Thursday [Nov. 14], the Sri Lankan Association and MSU Softball Cricket Club will present a cricket clinic on the drill field at 5 p.m. The German Club will also celebrate "Fasching" or German Mardi Gras at 5 p.m. in the Colvard Student Union, Room 227. At 7 p .m., the Nepalese Student Association will host a film, “Kathmandu Lullaby," in the Fowlkes Auditorium of the Colvard Student Union.

-- On Friday [Nov. 15] from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., visit the "Taste of Language" booth in the Colvard Student Union food court to learn quick foreign language phrases to use in everyday conversations.
