Mississippi State's music department will present a free trumpet and voice recital Nov. 3 at the Starkville First United Methodist Church sanctuary.
The 3 p.m. performance will begin with an introductory fanfare by the university 12-member Trumpet Consort under the direction of assistant professor Anthony Kirkland.
Three sections of different musical styles will follow, featuring the talents of Suzanne Galer, an associate voice professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida, MSU music department head Michael Brown and Karen Murphy, his departmental colleague and director of collaborative piano.
The first section will be art music with works by Bach, Poulenc and Purcell. The second section will include sacred selections, including Handel's "Bright Seraphim" and the classic "It is Well with My Soul" by Philip Bliss.
Jazz music by the State Messengers, a six-piece faculty combo, concludes the event.
The church is located at 200 West Lampkin St., at the western edge of the downtown area.
