Michael McDonald

He is so much more than a mountain of Motown covers.

Michael McDonald’s ear-catching baritone is as well-known as and his hits -- “Takin’ It To the Streets,” “Minute by Minute” and “What a Fool Believes” are just a few -- that still enjoy radio airplay.

His current tour swings through Meridian on Tuesday [Oct. 15] for a 7:30 p.m. performance at the MSU Riley Center. A pre-show reception will take place at 6 p.m.

Hits came early for McDonald as he joined Steely Dan in his 20s, singing back-up and playing keyboard. A move to The Doobie Brothers brought even greater success, and gave McDonald more opportunities to sing lead and write songs. Since the early 1980s, his solo career has included a steady string of collaborations, chart-topping singles and a healthy dose of awards.

McDonald’s most recent release is a four-song EP, entitled “Unfinished Business,” with renowned blues guitarist Robben Ford.

Tickets are $69 and $63 at the MSU Riley Center box office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.msurileycenter.com or by calling the box office at 601-696-2200.
