STARKVILLE, Miss.--The recent reaccreditation of Mississippi State's Student Counseling Services signifies the continuation of quality mental health services for students of the university.
Directed by Leigh Jensen-Crawford, the center offers professional counseling by well-qualified clinicians, including counselors, clinical social workers and clinical and counseling psychologists. Offices are located in Hathorn Residence Hall.
She said an evaluation determined MSU's program again meets the high practice standards of the International Association of Counseling Services Inc. in offering competent and reliable professional services to its clientele.
IACS approval requires evidence of continuing professional development of staff members, as well as a continuing demonstration of excellence of counseling performance.
"There is a general understanding by MSU administration, faculty and staff that the work we do is important to student mental health which in turn not only supports the student but their academic, professional and personal success," Jensen-Crawford said.
The counseling center, a part of the Division of Student Affairs, also provides the campus community with resources to support student development in a caring and diverse community through outreach, prevention and intervention, she added.
Based in Alexandria, Va., IACS was established in 1972 to encourage and aid counseling agencies to meet high professional standards through peer evaluation and to inform the public about counseling services.
