STARKVILLE, Miss.--The Starkville Symphony Orchestra Big Band will perform "Jazz at Renasant" early next month at the new Renasant Bank plaza.

Sponsored Oct. 8 by the Starkville-Mississippi State University Symphony Association, the free two-part concert takes place at 6 p.m.

Funded by Renasant, the popular program continues a tradition that opens the SSO performance season, while providing an outdoor gift to the community.

Following such standard tunes such as "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Round Midnight" during the first half, the program will shift during the second half to standard swing tunes such as "In the Mood."

A professional dance floor set up on a section of the plaza will encourage audience participation. Refreshments also will be provided.

The plaza is located on the front lawn of the recently opened financial facility at the intersection of East Lampkin and South Montgomery streets.

The 16-piece SSO Big Band includes MSU faculty members and other principal players from throughout the community.
