In recognition of Suicide Prevention Month, MSU's Active Minds and Spectrum organizations are sponsoring a showing of the Academy Award-winning film "Trevor" on Tuesday [Oct. 1], at 6 p.m., in Colvard Student Union's Dawg House.
The documentary focuses on a thirteen-year-old boy who, when rejected by friends because of his sexuality, makes an attempt to commit suicide. As a result of the film, "The Trevor Project" was created and is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth and young adults. Through a toll free number, it operates "The Trevor Lifeline," a confidential service that offers trained counselors to youth in crisis. The project also provides guidance and vital resources for parents and educators to foster safe, accepting and inclusive environments for all youth, at home and at school.
Following the screening, MSU Active Minds and Spectrum students will lead a discussion about the film.
