Mississippi State University joined a number of major public and private universities in partnering with The King Center and the National Park Service to co-sponsor the official magazine publication of the âI Have A Dream: 50th Anniversary of the March on Washingtonâ observance in Washington, D.C. today.
The 114-page publication provides extensive historical documentation of the 1963 March on Washington that provided the venue for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.âs inspiring âI Have A Dreamâ speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
MSUâs advertisement in the publication featured the story of MSUâs 1963 NCAA basketball âGame of Changeâ with Loyola University. The game was instrumental in breaking the âunwritten ruleâ that kept Deep South universities from competing against integrated opponents. A number of events, including a December return NCAA basketball game with Loyola, will celebrate that 50th anniversary observance.
Other universities co-sponsoring the publication, which is being distributed by the National Park Service in Washington today, include Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Georgetown, West Virginia, Loyola, Lehigh, Oregon, Marymount, University of Southern California, and Kansas State.
MSU is the most diverse university in the Southeastern Conference and the most diverse original land-grant university in the nation.
