Mississippi Education Achievement Council to meet

The Mississippi Education Achievement Council will meet on Thursday [Aug. 22], at 11 a.m., in the IHL Board Room, located in the Universities Center at 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS 39211.

The agenda includes a presentation on the Pell Grant Program in Rural States from Dr. Steve Katsinas, director of the University of Alabama Education Policy Center. There will also be a presentation about high school innovations from Dr. Lynn House and a report from the State Financial Aid Study Committee.

The council was established by the Mississippi Legislature during the 2010 regular session to establish education achievement goals for the state, monitor and report on the state’s progress toward these goals and prepare an annual report card compiled from the annual reports submitted by each state institution of higher learning and community and junior college in the state.

The Mississippi Education Achievement Council consists of representatives of the Mississippi Legislature, the Governor’s Office, the State Institutions of Higher Learning, Mississippi’s Community and Junior Colleges, the Mississippi State Board of Education, the Mississippi Department of Mental Health and the Mississippi Economic Council.
