STARKVILLE, Miss.--The Mississippi State Student Association is announcing the third annual Cowbell Yell pep rally Sept. 5 at Davis Wade Stadium's Scott Field.

To begin at 10 p.m., the free Thursday event will help launch the 2013 home football season two days later.

At 2:30 p.m. Saturday, the 7th, the MSU Bulldogs kick off against in-state rival Alcorn State University, Mississippi's other land-grant institution.

SA President Michael Hogan of Memphis, Tenn., said the rally will feature the Famous Maroon Band, MSU Cheerleaders and Pom Squad, Head Football Coach Dan Mullen, Athletic Director Scott Stricklin, and other speakers. A preview of the 2013 football videos also will be part of the program.

South-end stadium gates--entrances nearest to the Junction--will open at 9 p.m.

The first 500 students to arrive will receive free T-shirts and all students will have an opportunity to win autographed cowbells.

Hogan said Cowbell Yell is designed to celebrate the 135-year-old university's athletic traditions and mobilize the highest possible levels of student support for the 2013 Bulldog squad.

"Cowbell Yell is a great way to introduce Mississippi State game day traditions to students and get excited about the upcoming season," he said.
