STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State alumni groups will host send-off parties for local students around the country who are enrolling in the university for the first time.
Co-sponsored by the MSU Alumni Association and Office of Admissions and Scholarships, this is the eighth consecutive year these events have taken place. Parties will be held through August 9. Nearly 60 chapters have scheduled events across Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Texas and other states.
"Send-off parties are a great opportunity for our alumni chapters around the nation to serve our university," stated John P. Rush, vice president for development and alumni. "These events allow our alumni and friends to communicate the values and mission of Mississippi State, while also spreading school spirit to their neighbors and friends."
During the 2013 parties, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Office of Admissions and Scholarships, the Alumni Association and other campus units to answer specific questions regarding life at MSU. One or more university faculty or staff members will be at each gathering.
Fall classes begin on Monday, Aug. 19, on both the Starkville and Meridian campuses. The university is anticipating another year of high enrollment overall and with the incoming freshman class.
