Best of the best: MSU announces 2013 Society of Scholars selections

Contact: Leah Barbour

STARKVILLE, Miss.--More than two dozen Mississippi State seniors graduating May 10 and 11 are new members of the university's Society of Scholars.

At the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters, the campus organization recognizes top students who have demonstrated the highest levels of academic excellence in their majors. In addition to a broad, rigorous exposure to arts, sciences and humanities courses, they consistently have demonstrated a sound foundation in languages, mathematics, social sciences and oral and written communication.

Of the approximately 2,400 undergraduate candidates for 2013 spring semester degrees, only 25 students recently were inducted into the society.

More than 500 students have been honored with membership since the organization was founded in 1981 with 21 charter members.
