STARKVILLE, Miss.--A Fulbright Scholar from Vietnam will speak Friday [April 5] at Mississippi State.
"Vietnam: The Land, Its People and Culture" will be the topic of a public program led by Kim Anh Nguyen, a senior economics faculty member at Nha Trang University.
Open to all, her presentation begins at 1 p.m. in 231 Colvard Student Union.
A doctoral graduate of Hanoi's National Economic University and an authority on agricultural economics and rural sociology, Nguyen concurrently directs the NOMA-FAME international master's degree program supported by SIU, an agency of the Norwegian government. In 2010, she was a university fellow at the University of Tromso, Norway.
Established in 1946 under congressional legislation introduced by Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the scholars program that bears his name is designed to build mutual understanding between the American people and those in the rest of the world.
Sponsored by the U.S. State Department and its Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Fulbright grants enable approximately 800 scholars from nearly 100 countries to lecture and/or conduct postdoctoral research at U.S. institutions.
Through the summer, Nguyen is involved in research at Auburn University.
Nha Trang, the home of her university, is a major coastal city on the South China Sea. Located in Vietnam's south central region, it is a popular tourist destination twice recognized by Travel and Leisure magazine as having one of 29 most beautiful bays in the world.
