STARKVILLE, Miss.--The College of Business at Mississippi State University is announcing the establishment of the Bank of Kilmichael Annual Scholarship.
"The Bank of Kilmichael is very pleased and proud to fund this scholarship for the College of Business at Mississippi State University. In partnering with the College of Business and the Department of Finance, we feel that this is an effective way of serving our communities in Montgomery, Choctaw and Webster counties by rewarding a qualified young student from this area who attends or plans to attend MSU," said Bertram S. "Buddy" Mortimer, bank president and CEO.
The award recognizes leadership qualities in and out of the classroom and a commendable academic record, among other qualities.
Freshman Corrine M. Jackson, an accounting major from Eupora, is the inaugural Bank of Kilmichael Scholar. A member of MSU's Shackouls Honors College, she is the daughter of Gary and Nancy Jackson.
"The Bank of Kilmichael scholarship is very important to me," she said. "My parents have always stressed the importance of a college education. Receiving this scholarship will help me to further my education at Mississippi State so that I will be able to get a good job in the future."
Dean Sharon Oswald said the College of Business "is thankful for the support of the Bank of Kilmichael and looks forward to awarding the scholarship annually to a deserving student.
"We commended Mr. Mortimer and the bank for their commitments to the communities they serve and to the College of Business at Mississippi State," she continued.
"Scholarship opportunities are a top priority of the college and are made possible by the support and generosity of partners like the Bank of Kilmichael," she said. "Because of our alumni and friends' continued support, the College of Business is able to offer scholarship money to the best and brightest students across our state and region."
Mortimer is a 1982 MSU business graduate and a member of the Finance and Economics Advisory Board in the College of Business.
