Noted colonial and early American historian Patrick Griffin is the next guest for Mississippi State's Institute for the Humanities Distinguished Lecture Series.
Griffin's presentation, "Transforming the Atlantic World: Britain's American Crisis and the Origins of Revolution" takes place at 4 p.m. Tuesday [March 19] in the Taylor Auditorium of the university's McCool Hall.
The program is presented with support from the university's Office of Research and Economic Development and the Apgar Foundation of Lexington, Va.
Griffin, Madden-Hennebry Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame, is a leading specialist in colonial America and the Atlantic world, with a special focus on British and Irish histories. He taught previously at Ohio University and the University of Virginia.
His books include "The People with No Name: Ireland's Ulster Scots, America's Scots Irish, and the Creation of a British Atlantic World" (Princeton University Press, 2001) and "America's Revolution" (Oxford University Press, 2012).
