STARKVILLE, Miss.--A public memorial service celebrating Mississippi State University President Emeritus Donald W. Zacharias' life and work will be held Thursday [March 7], at 11 a.m., in the MSU Colvard Student Union's Foster Ballroom. A visitation reception will be held immediately following the memorial service.
Speakers for the memorial service will include MSU President Mark E. Keenum, former interim MSU President Roy Ruby, MSU Foundation Board Member Lewis Mallory, and MSU Alumni Association Executive Director Jimmy Abraham.
Parking will be available at the Palmeiro Center, next to Humphrey Coliseum, and shuttle buses will transport guests to and from the Union. The shuttle service will run every 10 to 15 minutes beginning at 9:30 a.m.
A private family service will follow on Friday. MSU respectfully requests that the privacy of the Zacharias family be considered during the Friday services.
Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant has ordered flags on the Mississippi State University campuses lowered to half-staff from Monday [March 4] through sunset on Thursday [March 7] in memory of Zacharias, who died Sunday in Starkville at the age of 77 following an extended illness.
