STARKVILLE, Miss.--The Greenwood native who rose from part-time package handler to the chief operating officer of United Parcel Service (UPS) speaks Thursday [Feb. 28] at Mississippi State.
David Abney is the latest guest for the College of Business' Leo W. Seal Jr. Distinguished Speaker Series. Open to all, his 2 p.m. university presentation takes place in McCool Hall's Taylor Auditorium (Room 124).
Abney leads all operations for the world's leading logistics and largest package-delivery company whose headquarters are located in the Atlanta suburb of Sandy Spring, Ga.
He began work as a loader with the company in 1974. Over his long career, the Leflore Countian has held a number of management positions, including the presidency of SonicAir, a same-day airline-based cargo delivery service UPS acquired in the 1990s.
Abney is a business administration graduate of Delta State University and a member of the Cleveland institution's alumni foundation board of directors. He also is a trustee of the UPS Foundation, the company's philanthropic arm, and member of the MSU business college's executive advisory board.
