A Mississippi State exhibition opening Feb. 21 will showcase works by William "Bill" Dunlap, the university's first and newly named artist-in-residence.
To be featured at the Cullis Wade Depot Gallery through April 5, "Look At It -- Think About It" will feature 16 paintings and constructions completed between 1971-95 by the Mississippi native and nationally recognized artist.
The exhibition is free and open to all, as is a 5:30 p.m. gallery reception on the 21st. At the reception, Dunlap will be discussing his creative processes and signing copies of "Dunlap," a complete catalog of his works.
In addition, the artist will be providing periodic guided discussions of the exhibition. The first begins at 11 a.m. Feb. 26.
Dunlap said he wants his artwork to have a life after his storytelling, so viewers may make their own personally meaningful interpretations of his art.
"What I want to do is engage people on an aesthetic and personal level and give them something to contemplate," he explained.
