STARKVILLE, Miss.--A five-member Southern band heralded as "the savior of slacker funk-punk" is headlining Mississippi State's April 20 Old Main Music Festival.

Cage the Elephant will perform during the 7 p.m. free concert at the University Amphitheatre. The Saturday concert is among a wide range of activities taking place during Super Bulldog Weekend, MSU's spring homecoming celebration.

The festival is a campus Music Maker Productions- and Student Association-sponsored event held in conjunction with the Center for Student Activities. One Republic, Trey Songz and Robert Randolph have been among previous festival performers.

A rock band from Bowling Green, Ky., and formed in 2006, Cage the Elephant has gained a large following in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada for their sound and high-energy performances. Of two albums released so far, the second debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. Also, the single "Shake Me Down" was nominated for a 2011 MTV award as best rock video.
