The Starkville-Mississippi State University Symphony Association is sponsoring a fund-raising extravaganza to help support its popular concert program.

With "A Bach to the Future Affair" as this year's theme, the Feb. 16 event will take place 7-10 p.m. at the Starkville Country Club, 1800 South Montgomery St. Individual $60 tickets may be purchased in advance at the Chalet, Book Mart on Main Street or from any symphony board member.

In addition to jazz, swing and pop music selections by the MSU State Messengers ensemble, the Saturday gala will include food, complimentary wine, a cash bar, and a surprise guest.

Established more than four decades ago, the association long has prided itself in being one of the smallest United States communities continuously supporting a symphony orchestra and chorus.

Michael Brown, MSU music department head, is the conductor, while instructor Doug Browning of Mississippi University for Women leads the chorus. The children's programs are directed by Joe Ray Underwood, MSU professor emeritus of counseling and educational psychology.

The Starkville Country Club is located nearly three miles south of the Montgomery Street intersection with state Highway 12.
