MSU online programs listed highly in U.S. News and World Report

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State University is listed in the 2013 U.S. News & World Report rankings on the nation's colleges, getting especially high marks for online engineering and business graduate programs.

The university's James Worth Bagley College of Engineering ranks No. 12 among the 2013 Best Online Graduate Engineering Programs and also ranks No. 12 among the Best Online Graduate Computer Information Technology Programs, which includes Bagley programs in computer science and electrical and computer engineering.

"The newly released ranking is a great achievement for our engineering distance learning program," said Sarah Rajala, dean of the college. "Our faculty who teach these distance learning courses have gone above and beyond to meet student learning needs with new technologies and tools to reach engineering students across the nation. We can't thank them enough."

The College of Business also earned a No. 38 rank for Best Online Graduate Business Programs.

Additionally, MSU's College of Veterinary Medicine is listed No. 23 among the top ranks for graduate schools.

Other MSU rankings include the Bagley College of Engineering's placement among best graduate school rankings with the biological/agricultural engineering program at No. 19; the industrial engineering program at No. 48; and the aerospace engineering program at No. 49.

"As chief academic officer, I am proud of the rankings of the various MSU programs by U.S. News and World Report. Ranking 12th in two online graduate programs in engineering is quite an accomplishment and a tribute to our fine distance programs. I am likewise very proud of the other ranked programs in engineering, business and veterinary medicine," said Jerry Gilbert, provost and executive vice president.

"These demonstrate MSU's commitment to academic excellence and our goal to be more highly ranked nationally," Gilbert added.

For this year's rankings, statistical information was collected from July 2011 to June 2012. The remaining data was compiled in the summer and fall of 2012.
