A former top intelligence official in the George W. Bush administration will be in the state this week to lead two programs on China.
Thomas Fingar speaks Wednesday [June 6] at Mississippi State and Thursday [the 7th] in Jackson. "China's Rise and the U.S. Interests" will be his topic at both programs, which are organized by the university's Center for International Security and Strategic Studies.
At MSU, his address begins at 10 a.m. in the Templeton Room of Mitchell Memorial Library.
In Jackson, he will lead the June meeting of the Executive Lecture Forum, which gets under way at 11:45 a.m. at the Fairview Inn.
As he was before joining the State Department in 1986, Fingar is a professor at Stanford University. In 2005, he moved from diplomatic service to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, where he was deputy director for analysis and, concurrently, chairman of the National Intelligence Council.
Fingar, a Stanford doctoral graduate, returned to his alma mater in late 2009 and subsequently was named Payne Distinguished Lecturer at its Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.
While his address at MSU is open to all, the ELF address in Jackson is not a public program. As is traditional, however, interested members of the news media are invited to attend.
To ensure adequate seating at the latter event, reporters and others planning to attend are requested to contact Tan Chapman, as soon as possible, at 662-325-4062.
