Melody Golding, Howard Brent, and Hank Burdine will sign copies of "Panther Tract: Wild Boar Hunting in the Mississippi Delta" on Friday [Oct. 14], from 1:30-3 p.m., in Barnes & Noble at Mississippi State. The appearance also will include a brief talk on the new publication.
"Panther Tract" is an insider's look at extraordinary hunting, southern hospitality, camaraderie, and the love of dogs, horses, and hair-raising excitement. The book includes 160 photographs depicting "a day at the hunt" on Panther Tract, a large wilderness area in Yazoo County, and at other Mississippi Delta locations. Panther Tract is owned by Brent.
Golding is a Mississippi author, photographer, and artist from Vicksburg. Her photos in the book show knowledge and a critical eye for the subject, and the stories she has collected for the publication range from humorous hunting tales to serious accounts of the history of this type of hunting in America.
Golding's solo documentary exhibit, "Katrina: Mississippi Women Remember," was acquired by the Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of American History Archives Center. Her photographs are on display in the Congressional Hearing Room at the Department of Homeland Security and have been featured in exhibitions across the U.S.
Burdine, who has written the book's introduction, has a broad vision for the history, statistics, and lore of hunting wild hogs. He is a Mississippi native and hunter.
The book's appendix also features hunt recipes by Chef John Folse.
