A recent ruling by the Mississippi Department of Revenue will mean students at Mississippi universities now will have sales tax applied to meal plan flex dollars. The change became effective Aug. 22 , following a review by the state agency. Block meals are not affected and will continue to be exempt.
"We are very sensitive to the impact this will have on students and the fact that it, essentially, reduces the buying power of those who hold meal plans," said Bill Broyles, assistant vice president for Student Affairs. "While we're disappointed, we're committed to working with our dining partner, ARAMARK, to provide the best dining experiences possible."
