MSU Service DAWGS' day of volunteerism is set for August 16.

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State's Service DAWGS organization is designating August 16 as a day to contribute to the Starkville community through various volunteer projects.

Service DAWGS hosts a campus-wide day of service that provides incoming freshmen, returning students, and university faculty and staff the opportunity to make new friends and help the community through a morning of projects. Volunteers get a free Service DAWGS t-shirt.

Breakfast in the Junction will kick off the day at 8:30 a.m., and participants are invited back to campus at the conclusion of their service for a celebratory barbecue lunch. Last year, more than 250 volunteers participated.

Volunteers may pre-register at www.mvc.msstate.edu/events. Individuals or other organizations may also suggest community sites for potential service projects by contacting Elizabeth Du Bois at Elizabeth@volunteerstarkville.org.

Anyone interested may follow the group on Twitter at @ServiceDAWGS11.
