STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State is announcing the 2011 dates for a special summer workshop program for prospective students considering the architecture major.

The June 10-17 Design Discovery Workshop/camp is offered by the School of Architecture, a part of the university's College of Architecture, Art and Design. The annual session was created specifically for incoming freshmen--or any high school student age 16 and older--with an interest in architecture or related design fields.

The 45 camper slots are being filled on a first-come basis.

Design Discovery coincides with MSU's summer orientation sessions. Since they may pre-enroll for fall classes during orientation, incoming freshmen to major in architecture strongly are encouraged to attend both the camp and an orientation session.

Camp activities are designed to simulate the levels of information processing and individual skill and intensity required of students enrolled in Mississippi's only academic curriculum in architecture. Consistently, this campus residential experience has been credited with helping many make informed career decisions as it relates to the education of an architect.

The total camp cost of $595 includes a $100 non-refundable application processing fee.

With support of Johnson-McAdams P.A., a Greenwood architectural firm, a limited number of scholarships are available to either Leflore County residents or members of minorities under-represented in higher education. Scholarship application forms are available through the school's web site: www.caad.msstate.edu/designdiscovery
