STARKVILLE, Miss.--One of the country's oldest and most respected touring theatrical companies will perform at Mississippi State March 29.
The Montana Repertory Theatre presents their rendition of "Bus Stop," William Inge's American comedy classic, as part of the university's 2010-11 Lyceum Series.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance in Lee Hall's Bettersworth Auditorium may be purchased in advance at 300 Colvard Student Union or reserved by calling the Campus Activities Office at 662-325-2930.
Admission prices are $15 for adults; $12, seniors, and MSU faculty and staff; $8, children. MSU student tickets are free with valid identification cards.
Exemplifying America's postwar awakening, "Bus Stop" retains relevance today with a theme of human interconnectedness. A New York Times review doubly praised the play as an "uproarious comedy that never strays from the truth."
Inge (1913-73) sought to demonstrate that a lot can happen in a single night. Examining the many faces of love, his story is set in a street-corner restaurant, where extraordinary qualities are revealed through seemingly ordinary people.
The 1956 film starring the legendary Marilyn Monroe helped engrain the characters as American cultural icons.
With a mission of telling great stories that enlighten, develop and celebrate the human spirit, Montana Rep was founded in 1968. Over its long touring history, the company has staged many American classics, including works by Tennessee Williams, Wendy Wasserstein, Neil Simon, Arthur Miller, and William Gibson, among others.
