STARKVILLE, Miss.--A national authority on human resources and chairman of Federal Salary Council visits Mississippi State Feb. 21 to discuss key issues to the field.

Stephen E. Condrey will discuss current human resources topics in the private and public sectors, including workforce management and economic issues, in 109 McCool Hall at 6 p.m. The program is sponsored by the university's department of political science and public administration.

Condrey will address graduate students in public policy and administration, in addition to others who attend the public event, according to Joseph "Jody" Holland, postdoctoral associate in the MSU Geosystems Research Institute.

"He's such a monumental figure in our field now," said Holland, who organized the scholar's visit. "His talk especially will be important for future and current public managers to hear."

In November, President Barrack Obama appointed Condrey chair of the FSC, the nine-person advisory panel that makes recommendations on federal employee pay issues.

Condrey recently retired from the directorship of the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government human resource management assistance program. He also was an adjunct professor of public administration in UGA's School of Public and International Affairs. He has 27 years of academic and consulting experience, and six years as a practitioner in the field of human resources management. Having consulted with more than 25 states, he has worked with more than 500 organizations worldwide.

Condrey received a bachelor's degree from the University of Montevallo (Ala.), a master's in public administration from the University of Tennessee and a doctorate in public administration from UGA.

Currently serving as editor-in-chief of the Review of Public Personnel Administration, Condrey is on the editorial board of Public Personnel Management and is vice president-elect of the American Society of Public Administration.

Among his many honors and distinctions, Condrey received the University of Georgia's Walter Barnard Hill Award for Distinguished Achievement in Public Service and Outreach, and was named Hill Fellow by the university in 2004, UGA's highest public service faculty honor.
