STARKVILLE, Miss.--For the fourth consecutive year, the Starkville-Mississippi State University Symphony Association is sponsoring a fund-raising extravaganza to help support its popular concert program.
With "A Spirited Affair" as this year's theme, the Feb. 5 event will take place 7-10 p.m. at the Starkville Country Club. Individual $60 tickets may be purchased in advance at the Starkville Book Mart, Starkville Area Arts Council office or from any symphony board member.
In addition to jazz, swing and pop music selections by the university's State Messengers ensemble, the Saturday gala will include heavy hors d'oeuvres and beverages.
Established more than four decades ago, the association long has prided itself in being one of the smallest United States communities continuously supporting a symphony orchestra and chorus.
Michael Brown, head of the MSU music department, is current symphony conductor. Ted Beverly, music ministries director at the Starkville First United Methodist Church, leads the chorus.
