In support of the Maroon Edition Common Freshman Reading Program and the Lamia Afghan Foundation's effort to help the children of Afghanistan, the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, in collaboration with Girl Scouts International Troop 20653 of Starkville, is conducting a school supplies drive. Items needed include pencils (with wooden erasers), ink pens (any size or color), composition books, spiral bound notebooks, coloring books, erasers, pencil sharpeners, small (blunt) scissors, glue sticks and highlighters.
To respect the cultural and religious mores of the region, we ask that you do not include items with religious themes, items representing female images such as the LIttle Mermaid or Jasmine, or any item with a caricature of pigs (such as Miss Piggy, piglets).
We appreciate your consideration in helping collect much-needed school items that are appropriate to Afghan custom.
Items are accepted until October 15. Drop off bin is available in the foyer area of Dorman Hall, just next to Room 128.
