STARKVILLE, Miss.--As it prepares for its 42nd consecutive season, the Starkville/Mississippi State University Symphony Orchestra will hold open auditions for a variety of instruments.
Those wishing to audition, including high school string players, will have an opportunity Aug. 18-Sept. 15 at designated times determined by calling symphony director Michael Brown, head of MSU's music department. He can be reached at 662-325-3070; or by e-mail at mbrown@colled.msstate.edu.
"I'll help schedule an audition time and share audition materials and procedures with those who contact me," Brown said.
Auditions are available for the following instruments:
--All strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass)
--Second bassoon
--Second French horn
--Harp
--Section percussion
--Acting second trumpet (one-year appointment)
A professional orchestra, the symphony pays a per-service honorarium for performances. High school students selected as student apprentices will not receive honoraria, but are encouraged to audition. All performances are free and are scheduled for MSU's historic Bettersworth Auditorium in Lee Hall.
