MSU announces 2010 fall semester dates

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Prospective students can continue to apply for admission to Mississippi State University through Aug. 2, with the first day of fall semester classes set for Aug. 18.

For students moving into campus housing, "check-in" activities will get underway on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at Humphrey Coliseum. Complete details on the day's events can be viewed at the MVNU2MSU website, http://www.housing.msstate.edu/mvnu2msu.

Aug. 16 and 17 are the last days to complete regular registration and pay tuition and fees. New student orientation day, for all who didn't attend the June sessions, is Aug. 17.

Other major dates for MSU's first semester include:

--September 6, Labor Day holiday. (University offices closed.)

--Oct. 11, 12, fall break. (No classes, but campus administrative offices open.)

--Oct. 23, Homecoming for MSU alumni and friends, held in conjunction with the campus football game with the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

--Nov. 24-26, Thanksgiving holidays. (No classes for students on Nov. 24, but administrative offices open. Campus offices closed on Nov. 25and 26.)

--Dec. 1, fall semester classes conclude.

--Dec. 3-9, final examinations.

--Dec. 10, the 7 p.m. Friday commencement program in Humphrey Coliseum will include all colleges.

--Dec. 21-31, winter holidays. (Campus offices closed.)

--Jan. 5, spring semester classes begin.
