STARKVILLE, Miss.--An award-winning former player who's become a nationally recognized college football analyst will be featured April 15 at Mississippi State's 2010 Lamar Conerly Honors Lecture.
"Tales from the Gridiron: An Evening with Mark May" begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Taylor Auditorium of McCool Hall. The event is free to all, with the auditorium's 300 seats available on a first-come basis.
The university's Shackouls Honors College and athletics department are co-sponsoring the visit by the former National Football League offensive lineman who joined ESPN as an analyst and commentator in 2001.
Before going pro, May played at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a consensus choice for the Outland Trophy, the nation's top collegiate interior lineman recognition. (For more biographical information, visit www.espnmediazone.com/bios/Talent/May_Mark.htm).
While at MSU, May will meet with classes in broadcast journalism and sports administration.
Begun in 2006, the annual lecture series is made possible by a major gift from the program's namesake and wife Tracy of Destin, Fla., to the honors college, the region's oldest and largest.
A former MSU Alumni Association president and College of Business and Industry Alumni Fellow, Lamar Conerly is a 1971 accounting graduate who heads a legal firm in the Gulf Coast city.
