Early sign-up encouraged for MSU architecture 'discovery' camp

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State is announcing the 2010 dates for a special summer program for prospective students considering the architecture major.

The June 11-18 Design Discovery camp is offered by the School of Architecture, a part of the university's College of Architecture, Art and Design. The annual session was created specifically for incoming freshmen--or any high school student age 16 and older--with an interest in architecture or related design fields.

The 45 camper slots are being filled on a first-come basis. June 1 is the registration deadline.

Design Discovery coincides with MSU's summer orientation sessions. Since they may pre-enroll for fall classes during orientation, incoming freshmen majoring in architecture strongly are encouraged to attend both the camp and an orientation session.

Camp activities are designed to simulate the levels of information processing and individual skill and intensity required of current students enrolled in Mississippi's only academic curriculum in architecture. Consistently, the campus residential experience has been credited with helping many make informed study and career decisions.

The total camp cost of $595 includes a $100 non-refundable application processing fee.

With support of Johnson-McAdams P.A., a Greenwood architectural firm, a limited number of scholarships is available to either Leflore County residents or members of minorities under-represented in higher education. Scholarship application forms are available through the school office.

This year's Design Discovery registration takes place 3-5 p.m. June 11 at Giles Hall, home of the school and college.
