STARKVILLE, Miss.--A collection of new images by veteran Mississippi State artist Brent Funderburk opens Monday [Feb. 1] at the River Gallery in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Titled "New Spin," the public exhibition through Feb. 28 includes seven new watercolor and acrylic works by the university art professor.

Part of the "Flying World" series, his luminous, dreamlike landscapes couple deep, cloud-roiled skies with such familiar objects such as ripe fruit, silver ornaments and paint tubes.

A free reception is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 5, followed with a presentation by Funderburk at 7 p.m.

A North Carolina native, Funderburk is an East Carolina University graduate who has taught at MSU since 1982. He also is a former art department head.

River Gallery and the River Gallery Sculpture Garden are located across from the Hunter Museum of American Art in the downtown Bluff View Art District.
