STARKVILLE, Miss.--Alexander Bostic, an artist educated at the Pratt Institute and Syracuse University, will be featured in two public programs Thursday [Sept. 24] at Mississippi State.
A guest of the university's art department, he will lead an 11 a.m. slide-illustration in the jury room of Giles Hall and a 1 p.m. portrait demonstration at the nearby Barnes & Noble Bookstore on campus.
Giles Hall, home of the College of Architecture, Art and Design, is located at the intersection of Collegeview Street and Barr Avenue.
An illustrator and artist reared in Brooklyn, N.Y., Bostic began his career as a studio artist with Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Mo., and freelanced in Los Angeles. He returned to New York to become a fulltime illustrator and co-owner of Illumination Studio, which specialized in advertising art.
Today he and his wife, new MSU art department head Lydia Thompson, co-own Celeste Studio in Glen Allen, Va.
Bostic works in the tradition of such illustrators and painters as N.C. Wyeth, Norman Rockwell and John Singer Sergeant. His works may be viewed at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.; Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Germany; National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Africa; and NASA in Washington, D.C.
He is a member of the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, Illustrators Club of Washington, Portrait Society of America, and Oil Painters of America.
