The remnants of Tropical Storm Claudette are on track to move toward Northeast Mississippi, but the weakened system now makes serious weather conditions less likely in the Golden Triangle area. The latest reports [at noon Aug. 17] indicate the probability of more significant rain beginning later this evening, with possible wind gusts in the 20-25 mile-per-hour range.
The storm made landfall in Florida early Monday morning and has moved quickly into south Alabama, where it has weakened. It continues to move northwest toward Mississippi and is expected to continue weakening with its inland progression.
MSU campus events scheduled for Monday afternoon and evening will continue as planned, including The Drill, the Student Association-sponsored welcome-back pep rally that begins at 6 p.m. on the Drill Field, with support from the Alumni Association. An 8 p.m. ice breaker and social sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity has been moved from the Amphitheater to the Foster Ballroom of the Colvard Student Union.
