STARKVILLE, Miss.--Two Mississippi State business majors are being recognized by the university's chapter of an international business honor society.

Beta Gama Sigma members Mary K. Sutphen of Greenwood and Laura E. Vaughn of Starkville are receiving $1,000 awards for outstanding academic achievements in the College of Business.

Sutphen, a junior accounting major, is the BGS Chapter Award Scholar, while Vaughn, a senior general business administration major, is this year's choice for the John Mitchell Memorial Scholarship. Both also are MSU President's Scholars and Shackouls Honors College members.

Sutphen, the daughter of Jack and Carla Sutphen, has served as an officer of Delta Gamma social sorority and a member of the Junior Panhellenic Council. She also is a volunteer for the Palmer Home for Children, among other community activities.

Vaughn, daughter of David and Kathy Vaughn, previously received the H. Stennis "Judge" Little Scholarship. She also is a participant in MSU's Appalachian Leadership Honors Program and several campus service programs.

The Mitchell Scholarship honors the late Starkville banker who had been honored by the BGS chapter for his many personal and professional achievements.
