In ceremonies Thursday [April 23] at Mississippi State, officials will announce a grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation to support the university's G. V. "Sonny" Montgomery Center for America's Veterans.
The ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m. in the fourth-floor Swalm Suite of the Swalm Chemical Engineering Building. Limited parking will be available near the adjacent Hand Chemical Laboratory, which is located just off President's Circle that runs behind Allen Hall.
Created in 2006, the center provides outreach services and programs in support of student veterans, service members, dependents, and survivors. The facility honors the legacy of the late G. V. "Sonny" Montgomery, the U.S. congressman from Meridian whose strong leadership in getting passed the current G.I. Bill caused it to be named in his honor.
