STARKVILLE, Miss.--After last month's bad weather caused a change in plans, Mississippi State is announcing that its 131st birthday celebration will coincide April 16 with Super Bulldog Weekend festivities.
Sponsored by the MSU Alumni Association, the free 11 a.m.-1 p.m. come-and-go campus event commemorates the land-grant institution's 1878 creation by the Mississippi Legislature. Food and entertainment will be provided at the Junction near Davis Wade Stadium.
"Our original celebration was scheduled for February 27, but because of a very bad rain front, we had to scale back that event," said Jimmy Abraham, the alumni association's executive director.
"We felt it was very important to have a birthday party that would allow the entire MSU Family to join in the celebration," he said. "So, what better time than Super Bulldog Weekend?"
Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and area residents are invited to come as their schedules permit for complimentary food and soft drinks and MSU ice cream, while supplies last.
Nash Street, Starkville's nationally prominent musical group, will provide entertainment.
Abraham said Starkville-based Cadence Bank again is providing corporate sponsorship. "Cadence has assisted us with the birthday celebration for the past several years and, on behalf of the university community, we express our sincere appreciation for their support," he added.
