STARKVILLE, Miss.--The Drill Field at Mississippi State will be the March 28 location for booths and displays representing more than 70 nations as the university sponsors the 19th annual International Fiesta.
Organized by the Starkville's World Neighbors Association with the Richard Holmes Cultural Diversity Center and the international education academic program, the free cultural extravaganza gets under way at 11 a.m. with a presentation of international flags. Activities conclude at 3 p.m.
"We are proud to once more showcase the many cultural influences we have at Mississippi State University," said Shaz Akram, assistant director for the Holmes Center. "The International Fiesta enables local communities to experience pieces of so many different cultures from the food and fashion to the games and crafts unique to those nations we have represented on campus."
Following presentation of flags, a fashion show will display traditional and cultural influences of participating students and family members. Also scheduled are musical and dance performances; arts and crafts exhibits; costume displays; and an international cooking contest, among others.
Several children-oriented booths will require the purchase of a 25 cent ticket or a book of five tickets for $1. These include a caricature artist; a pinata contest; face painting; and a moonwalk.
In the event of inclement weather, the rain location for the fiesta will be under the stands on the east side of Davis Wade Stadium.
