The commanding officer of the U.S. Air Force's Air Education and Training Command will discuss the duties and responsibilities of a leader with several groups of Mississippi State students during a March 5 visit to the university.
The presentation by Gen. Stephen R. Lorenz begins at 1 p.m. in the third-floor Fowlkes Auditorium of the Colvard Student Union. He will address cadets in Air Force and Army ROTC, as well as MSU's Appalachian Leadership Honors Program.
Based at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, the 1973 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy will be in the Golden Triangle to attend a conference at Columbus Air Force Base. The MSU visit is a part of his official Mississippi schedule.
As AETC commander, Lorenz is responsible for the recruiting, training and education of Air Force personnel. His command includes the Air Force Recruiting Service, two numbered air forces and the Air University at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Ala.
Lorenz, who also holds a master's degree in public administration from the University of Northern Colorado, commanded the Air University prior to his current assignment. He is a command pilot with 3,400 hours in 10 aircraft. (Complete biographical information may be viewed at http://www.af.mil/bios/bio.asp?bioID=6234.)
While not a public program, the general's address is open to interested members of the news media. Coverage must be completed with hand-written notes, however, since video and audio recording equipment will not be permitted in the auditorium.
Additional information on the campus event may be obtained by telephoning the MSU AFROTC Detachment office at 662-325-3810.
