STARKVILLE, Miss.--A veteran Mississippi State fundraiser is among young professionals being selected for the long-running recognition program of a Jackson-based business publication.

Jack R. McCarty of Starkville is on the 2009 list of "Top 40 Under 40" to be published next month by the Mississippi Business Journal. The awards program recognizes Mississippians who have established themselves as business and community leaders before the age of 40.

The weekly tabloid's "Top 40 Under 40" edition is scheduled to be published March 2.

McCarty has led the development efforts of the university's College of Business for the past two years. A Starkville native and 1991 MSU graduate, he is responsible for all fundraising and alumni relations activities in one of the South's oldest collegiate business programs, including the Richard C. Adkerson School of Accountancy.

From 1994-2001, McCarty was development director for various units in MSU's Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine. He left campus for a time to serve as director of development operations for Ducks Unlimited Inc., Southern Region.

"Jack McCarty's extensive professional experience, combined with his vast knowledge of Mississippi State, are strong assets as he works with the business college's leadership to achieve fundraising goals and, in the process, advance the university," said Bo Hemphill, executive director of development.

Business Dean Lynne Richardson echoed Hemphill's observations. "Jack is a renaissance man with a wide range of interests," she said. "He is generous with his time and talents for a variety of organizations, including those focused on roses, athletics, conservation, and animals."
