Playing in the newly remodeled McComas theater, student actors at Mississippi State will open the 2008-09 MSU Theatre season Thursday [Oct. 16] with "The Sugar Bean Sisters."

The 7:30 p.m. performance, which runs nightly through Saturday [Oct. 18], is $5 for students and $10 for general admission.

Set near Disney World, the original off-Broadway production by Nathan Sanders has been called "the most impressive debut of a new American playwright" by New York Newsday. A comedy that combines romance, murder and alien abduction, the play focuses on two spinster sisters dedicated to escaping their fates--and sending the aliens back where they belong.

A motion picture adaptation of the play is under way.

The remaining MSU Theatre season includes "Cinderella" in November, the North Mississippi High School Drama Festival in December, "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" in February, "Anything to Declare" and a student showcase in April.
