STARKVILLE, Miss.--The women's athletic program at Mississippi State again is being honored for having the highest graduation rate among all of the state's public universities.

With 85 percent of its student athletes completing degrees over the past year, the women's program recently received the David M. Halbrook Award for Academic Achievement. It now holds the title for five of the past six years.

The MSU recognition was among several presented by the Mississippi Association of Colleges and Universities at its annual meeting held this year at Delta State University.

At the 130-year-old land-grant institution, women compete in basketball, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track, and volleyball.

Three MSU students also won individual academic achievements awards. They include senior business information systems major Samantha Bailey of Lithonia, Ga., senior general business administration major Noah P. Goldman of Longwood, Fla., and junior secondary major Tyson Lee of Columbus.

A transfer student, Lee was honored for his work at Itawamba Community College.

The MACU honors are named for David M. Halbrook of Belzoni, a former state representative widely known for his vigorous support of Mississippi higher education.
