STARKVILLE, Miss.--C-SPAN's Campaign 2008 bus stops Friday [Oct. 17] at Mississippi State as part of a nationwide effort by the public television channel to encourage citizen engagement in the political process.
The 45-foot vehicle will be located in front of the Colvard Student Union from 1-4 p.m. Student groups and individuals will be given tours of the mobile production studio.
"We're very excited to visit Mississippi State," said tour coordinator Vanessa Bailey. "We hope the bus helps students and other voters become more informed as they prepare to participate in the upcoming [Nov. 4] election."
The bus also visits Starkville High School earlier Friday and will be at the downtown music festival Saturday before departing for Jackson.
Also promoting CSPAN's presidential election coverage, the tour began in January 2007 and has visited 43 state capitals and 195 schools. According to organizers, nearly 400 elected officials, 4,500 teachers and more than 40,000 students have come aboard the bus.
