STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State is announcing the dates and locations of its annual "update" seminars for small business owners, certified public accountants and others interested in the latest taxation information.
Organized from mid-November to mid-December by the College of Business' Division of Business Services, the five 2008 sessions are led by Edd Milam and Frances McNair.
Milam is a professor emeritus of accounting who was the longtime coordinator of MSU's graduate-degree program in taxation. McNair, a member of the faculty since 1987, holds the KPMG Peat Marwick Professorship in the college's Richard Adkerson School of Accountancy.
During each of the daily 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. sessions, the veteran educators will explain the latest tax rulings and legislation, as well as provide updates of significant developments over the past year. They also will examine current federal and state taxation issues, including those related to retirement and other critical areas.
Specific dates and locations for the seminars include:
--Nov. 13 and 14, Delta State University's Ewing Hall, Cleveland. Oct. 23 is the registration deadline.
--Nov. 24 and 25, Jackson Hilton Hotel (on East County Line Road). Nov. 3 is the registration deadline.
--Dec. 1 and 2, Southaven, DeSoto Civic Center (on Venture Drive). Nov. 10 is the registration deadline.
--Dec. 11 and 12, Hattiesburg's Lake Terrace Convention Center. Nov. 20 is the registration deadline.
--Dec. 15 and 16, MSU's McCool Hall, home of the College of Business. Nov. 24 is the registration deadline.
A $275-per-person early registration fee covers materials, instructions and refreshments. Forms postmarked after the deadline dates will be charged an extra $25 late fee.
If space is available, walk-in participants may be accepted. Telephone registrations will not be permitted.
